    2017 News:

    3/16 - Celebration of Tables - CTM will be participating in the annual Celebration of Tables at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 16. A table for eight will be decorated in a frontier motif. Tickets are available. Call Sally at 423-587-9900 and leave message. Funds raised will go to charities around the area.

    5/2 - Crockett Tavern Museum opens for the 59th season. Open Tuesday-Saturday, May 2 - October 21, 2017.

    6/3 - Tennessee Statehood Day - (June 1, 1796) - CTM will celebrate Tennessee Statehood Day on Saturday, June 3, 2017 with FREE admission between the hours of 11AM-5PM.. Many historic museums in Knoxville will participate as well to celebrate our state history.

    8/12 - David Crockett's 231st Birthday Celebration - FREE ADMISSION & Birthday refreshments - 2PM-5PM on the lawn of Crockett Tavern Museum. Activities include music, frontier re-enactors, children's games and events, tours of the museum, free refreshments, etc. Other food for purchase. Call 423-587-9900 for more info.

    9/23 - National Smithsonian Museum Alive Day - Free admission for two with tickets from the Smithsonian Magazine website. 11AM-5PM.

    History of Morristown-The Pioneer Period, 1787-1936 by Cora Davis Brooks. This Works Progress Administration (WPA) book has been reprinted twice since 1936 because of the important information about the early years of the area. Both reprints have been done by the Morristown Cemetery Restoration Committee (1995, 2009). The museum is assisting them in selling the 141 page book. The price is $15.00 for a spiral-bound edition. Copies may be picked up at the Crockett Tavern Museum beginning May 4, 2010 or can be ordered by phone now @ 423-587-9900. The book can also be hand-delivered within 20 miles of Morristown or mail-ordered. The book is also available at The Rose Center in Morristown.

    The Crockett Tavern Museum now has a "replica' of David Crockett's first gun. It was completed by local gunsmith Ron Holt. It features fancy brasswork, handsome carving, and a beautiful tiger-striped maple wood stock. David sold his longrifle to buy a horse when he married his first wife Polly Finley. He called it a "capital piece"! That gun is on display at the East Tennessee Historical Museum in Knoxville,TN - compliments of Joseph A. Swann. Special music this year by the The Phil-Harmonics USA Good Time Band (see them on Facebook). Leader Phil Rosenthal is a well known Alamo author and was a friend of Fess Parker.       2015 News:

      March 19 - Celebration of Tables - Hostesses from local businesses and organizations will create memorable tablescapes for your viewing and dining pleasure, beginning at 4:30 PM with the catered dinner by Southern Traditions Catering at 6 PM. There will be a program of music and drama designed to entertain, inform, and inspire as well as silent auction and door prizes. Tickets are $20.00 per person. Proceeds will go to CEASE Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center. For more information, please contact Jocelyn Campbell at 423-312-9186. The museum will have a table decorated with Crockett memorabilia and frontier objects.

      May 30 - Tennessee Statehood Day - CTM will be celebrating with Knoxville-area museums with FREE admission during regular business hours on Saturday, May 30.

      June 13 - Young Patriots Parade on Flag Day - CTM will join in with this event sponsored by the Crossroads Downtown Partnership. Hours TBA

      July 12 - 2-4PM - "Lemonade and Cookies" Fundraiser - Free tour of Crockett Tavern Museum. Donations accepted for the upkeep of the Historic Morristown Cemetery on 6th North Street. For more info call 423-587-9900.

      2013 Highlights:

      April 26 - Living History Day: Friday presentation by local home schoolers about frontier living. Home school students will be inside and outside the Crockett Tavern interpreting different persons from frontier times. Presentations will be at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. This event will be presented again on Saturday, April 27, at the same times for the public. FREE ADMISSION!

      April 30 - Crockett Tavern Museum opens for the 2013 season, Tuesday thru Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other hours are available for group tours.

      May 11 - Morristown Strawberry Festival - CTM will have a booth at the festival from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

      June 1 - Tennessee Statehood Day - CTM will be joinng Knoxville-area historic sites in the 217th anniversary of Tennessee Statehood Day. FREE ADMISSION at Crockett Tavern Museum.

      August 17- Davy Crockett's 227th Birthday Celebration will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on the museum grounds. There will be birthday refreshments, music, storytelling, etc. We will also be celebrating the 60th anniversary (1952-2012) of the Hamblen Co. Chapter APTA as well as the 225th birthday of Elizabeth Crockett and the 226th birthday of Polly Crockett. Click here for flyer.

      2012 Highlights:

      May 1 - Crockett Tavern Museum opens for the 2012 season! We will be open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, May 1 - October 31.

      July 5-7 - Direct Descendants of David Crockett and Kin Family Reunion 2012 will be held at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, TN. For more information, visit goahead.org.


      August 17 - Davy Crockett's 226th Birthday Celebration will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, August 17 at the Crockett Tavern Museum. Birthday refreshments, children's activities, tours of the museum, Jim Claborn as Davy, re-enactors, music by Mitchell Bradley, and a Bill Landry book signing will be available. Smokin' Joe's restaurant catering will be on site as well. THIS IS A FREE EVENT!


      September 29 - Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day 2012 - Up to two adults admitted "FREE" with printed Smithsonian Magazine passes during Crockett Tavern regular hours of operation.

      October 27-28 - The 37th Annual Mountain Makins Festival will be celebrated at Rose Center on Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, October 28, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information visit the Rose Center website.


      2011 Highlights:

      March 6 - 175th Anniversary of the Alamo Battle. The Morristown City Center model of the Liberty Bell was rung 32 times for the Tennessee Alamo defenders who lost their lives at the Alamo, including David Crockett, and once for all Alamo defenders who lost their lives.       March 17 - The Celebration of Tables was held at First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, TN. The Crockett Tavern Museum had a table decorated in a pioneer motif. All money raised went to the MATS Shelter for the homeless.

      May 14 - The Museum participated in the Kids on Patrol bike tour event.


      May 23 - The museum sponsored author Michael Wallis and his new book David Crockett: The Lion of the West with a book signing at the Morristown-Hamblen Public Library Community Room. The book is availble on Amazon.com.

      June 4 - Lakeway Festival of Words - Morristown-Hamblen Public Library from 10 a.m - 4:30 p.m. A Scholastic Book Fair was held as well.

      July 8-10- The Crossroads Festival of Western Legends was held at Cherokee Park in Morristown, TN. There were authentic cowboys, western films/dance/music, and a actual chuckwagon among other food vendors. Other craft and souvenir vendors were on hand as well.       August 13 - Davy Crockett's 225th Birthday Celebration was held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, August 13 at the Crockett Tavern Museum. Children's activities, tours of the museum, re-enactors, homemade ice cream, music, and birthday refreshments were available. THIS WAS A FREE EVENT!

      September 24 - Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day 2011 - Up to two adults admitted "FREE" with printed Smithsonian Magazine passes during Crockett Tavern regular hours of operation.

      October 10 - Bill Landry was at the Crockett Tavern Museum from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. to sign copies of his new book Appalachian Tales and Heartland Adventures.

      October 10 - Group members of the Monreagh Ulster-Scots Heritage and Education Centre at Carrigans in east Donegal were in the U.S. for a 10 day tour in southeast Appalachia. Author and newspaperman Billy Kennedy led the group. They traced the journey of some 200,000 Ulster-Scots who left Ulster to seek a better life in America.       2010 Highlights:

      May 8 - The Crockett Tavern Museum was the first stop on the Morristown Police Department Bike Patrol Ride. The ride departed from College-Square Mall at 9 a.m. and arrived at the museum at approximately 9:15 a.m.

      June 10-12 (Crockett, Texas) - Direct Descendants of David Crockett Reunion. For information contact

      June 23 - The Western Writers of America toured the museum from 4 - 5:30 p.m. This event was open to the public. The group was in Knoxville from June 22-26 at the Crowne Plaza.

      June 25 - "White Lightning Driving Tour" - The caravan of classic cars coming through to Cumberland Gap stopped at the museum from 2:30 - 4 p.m. This was one of the many drivng trails listed in the official Tennessee Travel Guide for 2010.

      August 14 - Davy Crockett's 224th Birthday Celebration was held on Saturday, August 14, from 3-5 p.m. at the museum. Children's activities, tours of the museum, wagon rides, re-enactors, homemade ice cream, music, and birthday refreshments were available. A Memorial Remembrance of Fess Parker, star of "Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier," was also held at the museum. THIS WAS A FREE EVENT!


      September 25 - Smithsonian National "Free" Museum Day. The Crockett Tavern Museum had free tour admission on Saturday, September 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.





      October 23 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) & October 24 (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) - The museum had a booth at the Mountain Makins' festival at the historic Rose Center in Morristown. The event will included crafts, folklore, food, music, storytelling, dancing, authors, and more.




      2009 Highlights:

      August 15 - David Crockett's 223rd Birthday Celebration was held from approximately 6-10:30 p.m. at the museum with outdoor showing of Walt Disney's Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier at dusk. Click here for more info.

      September 26 - Smithsonian National "Free" Museum Day. The Crockett Tavern Museum had free tour admission on Saturday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations were appreciated!

      October 12 - Irish author Billy Kennedy spoke about his latest book Three Men of Destiny: Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, & Andrew Jackson (Scots-Irish Chronicles 10th Vol.) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 in the Jean Keener Community Room at Rose Center in Morristown, TN. The event was a joint effort between Crockett Tavern Museum and Rose Center. This was a free event. The author signed copies of all of his books which chronicle the history of the Scots-Irish in America.

       



      2008 Highlights:

      April 27 - CTM 50th Anniversary Celebration - The museum was dedicated on April 16, 1958 and opened to the public on April 21, 1958. Special proclamations were read and presented to the museum by both Morristown City and Hamblen County government representatives relating the fact that the museum has provided heritage education in the Lakeway area for 50 years.

      June 22 - "A Day in the Life of Rebecca Crockett" - Tanasi Girl Scout event

      July 10-12 - David Crockett Family Reunion - Direct Descendants of David Crockett & Kin (DDDC)

      August 17 - David Crockett's 222nd Birthday Celebration - "Marshal Andy" performance, refreshments, children's activities, and tours of the museum.

      September 13 - Crockett Fall Fest - colonial food, music, dance, re-enactors, and contemporary vendors.
